According to police, Brand crashed into 16-year-old Joshua Carillo as he was riding his bicycle on May 5, left the scene of the accident, and later returned to retrieve the bicycle left by the victim to throw it into a nearby river. He then proceeded to go the residence of a woman who saw him throw away the bicycle and threatened her to not tell the authorities what she saw. Brand denied all charges.
