Man veers off roadway, hits two police officers in Hamilton

Twenty-three-year-old Salem, Massachusetts resident, Angel Pouerietgeronimo, has been charged with negligent operation of a vehicle with personal injury, speeding, and a marked lanes violation after the vehicle he was driving left the road in Hamilton and struck two Ipswich police officers – Officers David Harrell and Zachary Bird.

According to preliminary investigations, Harrell and Bird had been working a roadside detail in the driveway at 711 Bay Road in Hamilton when Pouerietgeronimo veered off the roadway and crashed into them.

Police investigators peg the speed at which Pouerietgeronimo had been driving at the time of the incident to be at 50 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone.

Hamilton Sergeant Stephen Trepanier said Pouerietgeronimo was not intoxicated, nor was he on the phone when the accident happened.
