Forms of Radiation Treatments & Therapies

A radiologist is a medical professional who can conduct tests through:

  • Computer tomography (CT) scans
  • Magnetic resonance imagining (MRI) scans
  • X-ray scans
  • Ultrasounds

In most situations, these tests are innocuous and can help a medical team identify underlying conditions without any issue. But when radiation tests and treatments are done incorrectly, the patient can be injured due to unsafe or large amounts of radiation exposure. Again, minimal amounts of radiation exposure are typically benign. Problems begin when a radiologist targets the wrong body part, administers too much radiation in a single session or loses track of how many sessions the patient had in recent weeks.

Radiological Misdiagnoses

Other than causing direct damage through a radiological error, a radiologist can inadvertently hurt a patient by misinterpreting their radiation test results. Internal injuries, inflammation, and tumors can be identified with a good radiation test result. But if the radiologist and/or doctor working with them does not understand the information that can be found in the test results – either as reported on a datasheet or while looking at a printout of a scan – the issue can go unnoticed. With each passing day that the health condition is unaddressed, it can worsen and cause more harm.

Misdiagnoses are common forms of medical malpractice, but they can still be difficult to prove. Keep a copy of all medical records and let our attorneys examine them. We might be able to work with a third-party radiologist or oncologist to better understand what your medical provider did wrong. The expert testimony they provide could be what boost the chances of your claim.
